Joy Scadden

Joy Scadden Joy has worked with children for nearly twenty years. Originally caring for abused children in residential homes, she launched her first day nursery in Dorchester in 1995, two others followed in Weymouth and Bridport. Joy quickly realised the need for good quality, well-trained staff within early years and began working closely with Helen Horsley to deliver NVQ’s to her own staff and those working in other settings through Further Education. As a fully qualified assessor, IV and adult teacher Joy loves training and assessing, seeing people develop and become professional child carers. Learning is her passion, as well as her family, cats and garden!!
   

Helen Horsley

Helen Horsley Helen has worked in the field of childcare and education for 30 years. On leaving school she completed her Nursery Nurse training and became a Nanny. As her own children came along Helen started childminding, this was followed by becoming the Supervisor for the local Preschool. Under her direction the Preschool gained the accreditation status for quality.  To enable Helen to share her experience and knowledge; she gained her PGCE, assessor and IV awards and lectured in all aspects of childcare and education. This move led to her becoming the Programme Area Manager for Care Studies within the College and an Ofsted Nursery Inspector. Recently Helen realised she missed working directly with families and children, so took up the post as Organiser for the local charity Home-Start West Dorset but continues to share her knowledge through the Side by Side Training Centre.
   

Julie Downton

Julie Downtown Julie has worked in childcare for almost 14years, starting off as a nanny, before settling into nursery life. She has continued with her professioanl development throughtout this period and is now qualified to NVQ level 4 and has her A1 assessors award. For the last 5 years she has been managing a day nursery in Bridport, enjoying the challenge of developing a new nursery and building up a team of dedicated nursery nurses. However in September of this year Julie decided to move forward with her career and join Joy in the training centre as a full time NVQ assessor, her aim is to support her candidates to the best of her ability and ensure they become knowledgable dedicated practitioners.
   

Claire Moir

Claire Moir Claire has been working with children and young people for the past 9 years, primarily within the outdoor education industry sharing her love of the natural environment. She spent 6 years managing the environmental education and school holiday activity provision at an activity centre in the New Forest, where she worked with children and young people from a wide variety of backgrounds. During this time she completed her Play Work qualification and her A1 assessors award and qualified as a Forest Schools Practitioner. In 2010 she decided to take on a new challenge and embarked upon an MSc in Social Work and joined SBS as a part time assessor.
   

Nita Dooley

Nita Dooley Nita has been working with young children for the past 11 years. Starting as a voluntary helper in a parent and toddler group, she gained experience which took her into the role of a teaching assistant within first school settings. She has since achieved HLTA status and a CertEd in supporting education. Nita has a particular interest in supporting children with behaviour management, autism and speech and language difficulties. She continues to develop her career and hopes to gain the PTLLS award as her next step.
   

Joan Armstrong

Janet Armstrong Janet has worked in the childcare and education field for nearly 30 years! On leaving school, she completed her NNEB training and travelled abroad, first working as a nanny for several different families and then in a nursery school, where she became deputy head. Janet has worked across the age ranges, as room supervisor for a baby unit, toddler room and preschoolers. She has also set up and run afterschool and holiday playschemes and crèches. Janet has gained her ADCE and holds a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies. Janet has joined SbS as a part-time assessor.
